Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, on Thursday, announced two major changes set to rock the local police service beginning next month.
Speaking during a tour of the gang-infiltrated Matungu Sub-County, Kakamega County, the no non-sense CS revealed that all the officers who had served at a station for more than four years would be moved.
He further disclosed that the ministry was mulling over a plan to introduce the delocalisation of officers to ensure that they do not get deployed to their own counties.
“We are going to look into the list and make sure that if you come from Nyamira, you will be deployed in Kwale or Garissa. This will help in improving our security,” he stated.
Matiang'i explained that the move was aimed at ensuring that security remained strong in all parts of the country at all times.
During the tour, the CS also noted that the state had opened a massive operation in the sub-county in order to weed out all terror gangs.
He revealed that up to 100 General Service Unit (GSU) officers were deployed in the area with the sole purpose of kicking out the gang members.
“From tonight we are embarking on a major operation that must yield fruit.
“If you are part of this gang surrender to the police within 14 days," he stated.
He was accompanied to the area by Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai among others.
