NEMA Gets New Boss After Wahungu Arrest

The National Environment Management Authority Board of Management has appointed Mamo Boru Mamo as the Director-General.

Mamo comes in to replace Geoffrey Wahungu who was arrested and arraigned in court over the controversial Kimwarer and Arror dams scandal.

The board announced that Mamo will take over the responsibilities in an acting capacity until the case is concluded.

Prior to his appointment, Mumo was the Deputy Director, Environmental Education & Information at the organisation.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, NEMA Chief Corporate Communications Manager, Evans Nyabuto, confirmed the appointment.

He further revealed that if Wahungu was to be found culpable of the offences he's has been accused of, the board would declare the post vacant.

Recruitment would then follow through a competitive process that would involve potential directors applying for the post, shortlisting and being interviewed before the appointment.

Wahungu was among the 28 people that the DPP recommended be prosecuted over the Monies lost in the two dams scandal.

The other high profile officers arrested were, Treasury CS Henry Rotich, his PS Kamau Thugge, David Kimosop the former Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA) Managing Director, EAC PS Susan Koech and Treasury Chief Economist, Kennedy Nyachiro.

In related news, President Uhuru Kenyatta through a press statement appointed Labour CS Ukur Yattani as the Acting Treasury CS.

The same statement announced that Dr Julius Monzi Muia had been appointed as PS for National Treasury, Torome Saitoti took over as PS for the State Department of Planning, Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Gordon Kihalangwa was appointed as the PS Ministry of Defence.
