2 Police Officers Killed in Grisly Road Accident

Two Administration Police officers and an unidentified civilian lost the lives, following a tragic road accident, on Saturday night.

Reports by the Daily Nation revealed that the accident took place near Kikopey, along the busy Naivasha-Nakuru highway.

Gilgil Sub-County Police Commander, Emmanuel Opuru, confirmed the incident, adding that the three were travelling in a private vehicle when the accident occurred.

"It seems the driver of the saloon car did not have a clear view of a stationary lorry that had stopped in the middle of the road following another accident," he disclosed.

The lorry had reportedly stalled in the middle of the road after it was involved in another accident on the same spot.

Limited visibility in that particular section of the road coupled with the stalled lorry dead in the middle of the road, meaning that the officers had minimal chance of avoiding ramming into the truck.

Opuru stated that the two officers died on the spot, with their passenger succumbing to injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Nakuru town.

Fellow officers posted at the Gilgil AP offices were left in shock, as they had been enjoying the company of the deceased officers, just moments before the accident.

"It unbelievable, we were within the two officers a few hours earlier before they decided to take a drive," a distraught colleague narrated.

The bodies were later taken to the Gilgil Sub-County Hospital mortuary.
