Citizen TV journalist's Victor Kinuthia's hilarious blunder while live-reporting the arrest of Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro seems to have been a blessing in disguise as he rose through the ranks in the station.
In a celebratory message posted on his Facebook page on Tuesday, September 10, Kinuthia hinted that he would be joining the station's Sema na Citizen show as a live events reporter.
In a confirmation article, the Kilimani-based media house welcomed the reporter to his new job under the headline, "Boy child rising: Victor Kinuthia now on Citizen TV morning show."
Kinuthia, who is attached to sister station Inooro TV, was trolled by a section of Twitter and Facebook users who thought that his work was hilariously sub-par.
As a result of the blunder, the resilient scribe got a call for a BBC interview in London where he shed more light on how he survived the trolls and emerged stronger with a renewed spirit and a promotion to boot.
“My story of encouragement will be hitting airwaves across the world in 2 hours time. Stay tuned n be blessed for the continued support.
“It was a really good interview. I talked about my experience going live on Monday and how my bosses and senior journalists in the industry rallied behind me telling people how the first time is never easy for anyone,” he announced after filming the interview.
Kinuthia's story entered into mainstream media after Citizen TV anchors led by Yvonne Okwara defended his performance after they noticed a foul language that was directed towards him on social media.
“It was his first time. He will get better with time. We all start somewhere. We will train him. You won't be laughing in a few years! Let's cut him some slack. We believe in him. He will go places. We will walk with him,” he explained.
"I spoke to him last night and encouraged him... he is fine and optimistic... he is actually really good in reporting in Kikuyu and Swahili na Kizungu pia atajifunza (and he will also learn English). He has a great attitude and is a joy to work with," expressed Jamila Mohammed.
