DP Ruto Schools Bishops on Real Meaning of Church Donations [VIDEO]

Deputy President William Ruto, on Sunday, October 6, took the stage and explained to everyone what church donations really mean.

Speaking during a prayer service at Kithirune Methodist Church of Kenya in Central Imenti, Meru County, the DP also quoted bible verses that praised regular donations.

He explained that the donations were not only in monetary value but also included other tangible items or intangible things like giving one's time to praise Jesus Christ.

He further reminded churchgoers that not all politicians were non-Christians explaining that it was a common misconception that politics and the church cannot go hand-in-hand.

"We stand together with the church because we know God. We do not come to church because of the bishop or pastor, we come to the church because of Jesus Christ.

"When you read the bible in the book of acts, it says, 'it is more blessed to give than to receive,'" explained Ruto.

"So when you go to church, you do not have to donate money, you can give your soul, you can offer your time, you can even show love among many others," he added.

This comes just a day after a section of Catholic bishops came up with strict rules to curb the menace involving church donations.

The church leaders were speaking at the Catholic National Shrine in Subukia, Nakuru County, where they held their annual National Prayer Day.

They mentioned that they had come up with stringent measures to ensure that donations made to their churches were done appropriately.

Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) Chairperson Archbishop Philip Anyolo revealed that donations made by politicians and well-wishers would only be made via banks or mobile money transfer.

Any cash donations would therefore not be accepted by because it would be difficult to account for it.

Anyolo also stressed that all bishops would be required to make a record of every donation made into their churches.
