Equity CEO Speaks to Jeff Koinange on Presidential Ambitions

Equity Group CEO and Managing Director Dr. James Mwangi on Monday, October 7, spoke to Citizen TV anchor Jeff Koinange on whether he was harbouring any presidential ambitions.

During a Facebook Live session, Koinange fielded a question by a netizen asking if the executive would consider running for president in the future.

In response, Dr Mwangi stated that he wouldn't consider venturing into politics as his current profession was fulfilling.

"My calling is changing lives by focussing on youth and empowering them to be better leaders. I seem to have a gift in the financial sector. I'd ask Kenyans to let me focus on what to best and that way I can impact more lives," he stated.

He noted that the country was in a position to develop further if everyone played their role in improving the economy.

"Collectively we can change Kenya. Kenyan can be much better. Our policies can improve and institutions can improve to become more competitive to the global stage," he added.

On the question of his successor, Dr Mwangi revealed that he was playing more of a consulting role in the company.

"I'm just an advisor and a coach to the youthful leadership team under me who handle the other operations of the Equity Group," he stated.

Equity bank which has been operating for 35 years recently unveiled a refreshed identity in line with the ongoing journey of transformation and regional expansion.

Commenting on the move,  Dr. Mwangi noted that the refreshed positioning follows an extensive three-year process of sounding out its current and future customer segments.

“The evolution of our brand is an important part of our strategy for continued market leadership as well as being integral to the promise we made to all of our stakeholders when we began our journey of transformation to modernize and do all we can to get closer to and better serve our customers.

“The refreshed brand identity reflects the future we envision, one which communicates our global capability, strong heritage, innovative culture and agile business model that will carry and give the brand momentum to scale its strengths across Africa and the world,” Dr. Mwangi added.
