He stated that it was too early to tell whether he would participate in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo to defend his title.

"That, I'll consult with my team but as of right now, it is too early to tell," he explained.

When asked by a user whether the smile on his face during the final section of the race was his way of tricking his brain to push on, he stated, "I was genuinely happy seeing the finish line. When I was smiling it was real happiness."

After crossing the finish line, Kipchoge credited his family for the victory stating that his wife and three children had given him a lot of support.

"My wife and three children have given me a lot of support and I'm glad that they flew in to witness the history. I'm happy they came. They have also made history," he stated.

Further, Kipchoge expressed his joy after he won the marathon, encouraging more athletes to participate.

"I want to tell people that no human is limited, you can do it. I'm expecting more of athletes in the world to run under two hours after today," he stated.
