K24's Eric Njoka Recounts Being Sacked Just Before Going Live

K24TV's Eric Njoka on Friday, November 1 opened up on his 2013 firing from KTN.

Describing the firing as one of the hardest moments in his life, Njoka explained that he was just about to present the news when he was sacked due to what managers described as redundancy in the media house.

"I remember that day, I was preparing to read the Primetime News when I was called by the Human resources manager at Standard Group," he stated via his Instagram.

The scribe added that he didn't expect to be dismissed, adding that the reason given was that he didn't relate well with the audience.

"When I was fired, it was hard to take in. I just got in my car and drove away along Mombasa road, I think I got to Makueni," he explained.

Months after his sacking, Njoka stated that his phone went silent as his former colleagues stopped reaching out adding that he found solace on the support he got from his family.

"My brothers were my support system who treated me the same as when I had the job. They encouraged me to get back to the morgue business," referring to the family's Mukoe Funeral Home located in Githunguri, Kiambu county.

Njoka added that his fortunes changed when he got employed at K24 in 2014, "It was hard moving on but I eventually did."

His video came amidst speculation that he had been fired from K24 during the recent mass firings experienced at Media Max.

Njoka also addressed reports that he had been laid off explaining his absence from TV.

"I will not be on air because I will be producing the 9 PM news instead, working behind the scenes, from Tuesday to Saturday including being in charge of Weekend With Betty for Friday and Saturday as News Editor/ Producer," he told Kenyans.co.ke.

The journalist disclosed that the retrenchment process at Media Max was heartbreaking as his friends and bosses got laid off.
