The habit of Kenyan politicians sending their children to study abroad is an open secret, from President Uhuru Kenyatta to former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, this seems to be the norm among the elite.
However, Deputy President William Ruto is one man who seems to have gone against the grain.
On June 28, 2019, the DP and his wife graced their daughter Stephanie Jepchumba's graduation ceremony at Strathmore University, Nairobi, where she graduated with a degree in law.
The DP, through his social media, showered her with praises, going on to laud her self-dedication and sacrifice.
"Congratulations to Stephanie Ruto on your graduation from Strathmore with a degree in law. Your dedication, hard work, self-sacrifice and God's grace has triumphed. As you join your peers in the legal profession, may you stand with the tenets of justice, fidelity, and impartiality," the DP stated.
In the just-concluded KCSE examinations, DP Ruto's daughter Abby Ruto was among the thousands of students who sat the exam.
Ms Abby, who was a pupil at Greenvalle Academy in Uasin Gishu County scored 406 marks.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Abby's mother, Prisca Bett, stated that the young girl aspired to join The Kenya High School.
Charleen Ruto, the DP's second-born daughter studied at Daystar University. She was among hundreds of students who graduated from the institution with a communication degree in 2015.
The DP, yet again, did not shy from congratulating her for the achievement.
“Today I am a proud father, our daughter graduated from Daystar University. She has made my wife Rachel and I proud. Parents should always strive to support their children in whatever way they can," the DP stated.
In February 2019, the DP's eldest son, Nick Ruto, was admitted to the bar by Chief Justice David Maraga.
He successfully completed the Kenya School of Law programme and passed the exam allowing him to be admitted advocate of the High Court.
"Hearty congratulations Nick Ruto for being admitted to the bar. As you begin a career in the legal profession, may you stand true to your calling as a defender of justice, human rights and an avid campaigner for equality and truth," Ruto wrote on his social media.
