Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua on Wednesday, December 11, tore into former Senator Johnstone Muthama over bold declarations he allegedly made on radio.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, the county boss accused Muthama of plotting a political pact between the Wiper party and Deputy President William Ruto.
He, however, made it clear that his Maendeleo Chap Chap Party was firmly in support of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) in association with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"We want to categorically tell WIPER that our people are tired of being auctioned to the highest bidder, as pawn[s] for individuals and to enrich a few.
"As Maendeleo Chap Chap Party, we fully support the Constitutional changes through the BBI initiative and urge Kenyans to shun corrupt, self-seeking alliances meant to destabilise Kenya," stated Mutua.
In a statement that accompanied his post, the governor further detailed that Muthama had, in an interview with Musyi FM, made clear that he was cutting ties with Raila.
"This morning in a live interview with Musyi FM, a Kikamba Radio under Royal Media Group, former Machakos Senator in his usual disrespectful, foul and dictatorial tone, among other issues, stated that the Wiper Party will no longer work with Raila.
"As a Party, we have been keenly following political happenings in this country and can confidently state that this announcement has not come as a surprise. We are aware of several secret meetings which have led to today's pronouncements," the statement read in part.
While speaking to Kenyans.co.ke earlier, Muthama, however, distanced himself from the reports stressing that he had never addressed the matter of his preferred candidate to succeed Uhuru in 2022 in any forum or to journalists.
"Those are baseless reports and I will not be dragged into denying nor confirming as I never uttered such remarks.
"They are generated from the author's own perspective. I am not out of politics. I never lost and I will continue being there. The only thing I said was that I would not stand in the 2017 elections and that's what I did," Muthama argued.
