Kenyans Never Learn - Musalia Mudavadi [VIDEO]

Amani National Congress party leader Musalia Mudavadi on Saturday, December 28 weighed in on debt situation in the country and came up with only one conclusion, 'Kenyans never learn'.

Mudavadi who was giving his end of year analysis during an interview with Citizen TV claimed that debt was the biggest problem he faced during his tenure as the finance minister between 1993 and 1997.

He further claimed that despite former president Mwai Kibaki struggling and managing to bring down the debt situation in the country President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto had taken the country back where it was in the 90s.

"When I talk about debt today, one of the biggest problems I was dealing with when I was in the treasury was debt and it is as if we have gone full circle and we are back to a situation where we have a lot of debt problem,

"This tends to speak to the fact that maybe Kenyans take too long to draw from their own lessons," Mudavadi stated.

The former deputy prime minister noted that the country's debt which currently stands at Ksh6 trillion was likely to rise in 2020 as the current budget had a deficit of over Ksh 500 billion.

Mudavadi the warned Kenyans to brace themselves for even harder times ahead as the pressures of paying of the SGR loan was set to kick in.

"Going into 2020 and beyond the government needs to see how it will reschedule these loans. even the Central Bank governor has warned of the same as he knows the crisis is coming,

"For example, in January 2020 there are some huge instalments of the SGR loan that now must be paid," he added.

Mudavadi further blamed corruption for slowing the economy even more and claimed that Kenyans were now looking at the Judiciary to conclude the case involving the siphoning of public funds that were in progress.
