Deaths Reported after Fierce Shoot-out in Broad Daylight

A shoot-out along the Eldoret-Malaba Road on Wednesday, January 8, resulted in the death of four wanted criminals.

Confirming the incident, Police Commander Johnstone Ipara stated that they neutralised the suspects who were plotting to rob a shop in the town.

"The thugs were flagged down to stop but they disobeyed the order by police and they even shot at one of the officers," he told journalists at the scene.

Ipara explained that a shoot out ensued with the officers killing four men in the gun battle.

He stated that upon searching the vehicle, a pistol, magazine and radio transmitters were recovered suggesting the suspects were monitoring police communication.

"We had intelligence that this gang has operated in other parts of the country including, Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru and now Eldoret. We are glad we caught them before they hurt anybody here," he added.

The police commander stated that the security agencies were on high alert and keen to foil any criminal activities.

Incidences of police successfully foiling robbery attempts have been reported in the past months.

On Wednesday, November 6, 2019, two suspected thugs were gunned down in Njegas-Kirinyaga County.

One of the slain gangsters was a police officer, with the DCI revealing that an AK47 Rifle with 12 live rounds was recovered during the operation that was led by the Special Crimes Prevention Unit of the DCI.
