A Chinese national living in Nakuru quarantined himself after he suspected that he had contracted the deadly coronavirus after a trip to China.
According to a report by Citizen TV, the man arrived in Kenya on Monday, February 10, picked an Uber at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and was taken to his home in Nakuru's Upper Hill area where he quarantined himself.
Officials from the County Government of Nakuru revealed that they learnt about the victim from his neighbours who were concerned about him.
The county's Health CECM Gichuki Kariuki disclosed that they visited the man's house on Tuesday, February 18, and carried out tests on him.
The tests, however, turned out negative and the county official urged the area residents to keep calm as they sought the issue out.
“We went to his house with our suits and a thermal gun, all the tests were negative, we will, however, keep monitoring him,” stated Kariuki.
The man will remain indoors for a period of 14 days.
The man, who is married to a Kenyan woman, isolated himself from his Kenyan family immediately he arrived and has reportedly had minimum interactions with them.
He arrived at JKIA while on an express plane from China.
This comes just a day after another Chinese national was quarantined in Kitui on suspicion of having contracted the deadly virus.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, a journalist based in the area disclosed that the Chinese man working with Synohydro Corporation, which was contracted with the tarmacking of the Kibwezi-Kitui-Mwingi Road, had been quarantined after being suspected of having contracted the disease.
The suspect was reportedly placed in an isolated room and given one caretaker. Witnesses disclosed that cooks at the camp were passing him food through the window.
