A family of 10 in Makueni County is under forced quarantine following alleged reckless actions of one of their kin.

According to a report by NTV, the family was quarantined after interacting with a relative who had flown into the country on Wednesday, March 18, from Spain.

According to a police statement, the woman put her family at risk after reportedly refusing to self-quarantine despite repeated reminders to do so.

When she arrived from Spain where she had been studying, the woman was reportedly picked up at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by her father, mother and two sisters.

The police noted that the woman was tested at JKIA after which she was ordered to self-quarantine but she did not follow through.

Local security was asked to monitor the family in case of any movements.

“During our remote surveillance, it was noted that she was living with ten family members in the same house. They were quarantined for 14 days within their house.

"The suspect was found to have mingled with his family members for days despite being ordered to self-quarantine," read the statement in part.

This comes as a study by Trends & Insights For Africa (TIFA) - an  African-based full market research company, revealed that more than 8 million Kenyans were not observing proper coronavirus preventive measures.

"18% have not adopted any prevention measures. There is low adoption of social distancing yet this is the main mode that can be used to slow down the spread of COVID-19

"A significant number (16%) of Kenyan adults do not know any of the 5 symptoms of COVID-19," reads an excerpt from the report.

Kenya had confirmed 28 cases of Covid-19 as of Wednesday, March 25 with the country recording the first case of full recovery.
