Residents of Langas area in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County on Sunday, March 29, openly defied the nationwide 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew.
The residents lamented that they had not made much money during the day hence could not go home before they met their targets.
"We would rather die of Corona[virus] than starve to death," one resident told Citizen TV.
The residents lamented that they lived from hand to mouth and with barely any savings, they had no money to even afford a meal at home.
Johnston Ipara, the Uasin Gishu County Police Commander said that when arrested they would be taken to designated government facilities where they would be tested for the Covid-19 virus.
In a brazen defiance social distancing protocol, the infuriated residents are seen mingling and touching each other oblivious of the danger they were exposing themselves to.
The residents pleaded with the government to provide them with food stating that the dusk-to-dawn curfew interfered with their business hours, significantly reducing their earnings.
The police in Eldoret were also put on the spotlight by the irate mob, for using excessive force to implement the government curfew order.
On March 29, the government had confirmed 42 of Covid-19 cases with health CS Mutahi Kagwe urging all Kenyans to follow the government's preventive measures to avert a full-blown crisis.
