A Chinese construction company is on the spot following the death of three girls in Maili Tisa, Uasin Gishu County at an abandoned quarry.
Three children lost their lives on the evening of Tuesday, June 2, after drowning in an abandoned quarry while attempting to swim.
The girls aged between five and nine years and were herding cattle before tragically meeting their death in the abandoned quarry.
A Chinese company constructing an interchange at the Eldoret-Malaba highway is being blamed for failing to secure the quarry before abandoning it.
Residents want the government to charge the Chinese construction company for neglect which led to the untimely death of the three girls.
"We are saddened because there were three children who were herding cattle and in the process drowned. Their parents did not even know their children had drowned.
"Our biggest challenge was lack of divers in the county who would have come in handy in the rescue mission," lamented a resident.
Residents reacted late to the incident as they arrived at the scene in the evening and found the bodies of the three girls.
Since the government imposed the dusk-to-dawn curfew, there has been a rise in cases of people drowning as a result of the heavy rains witnessed in April and May.
Some of the deaths have been blamed on drunkenness while others have been pegged on police who engage in running battles while trying to enforce the dusk till dawn curfew.
Complaints against Chinese construction companies have dominated headlines with their blunders causing the deaths.
However, little action has been taken to bring justice to the families who have lost their loved ones due to negligence by the accused firms.
