The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) on Tuesday, July 28, issued notice to motorists of a partial closure of a section of the Thika Superhighway for maintenance.

KeNHA announced that the section of Superhighway would be temporarily closed from 9:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. between Friday, July 31 and Sunday, August 2.

This, the authority explained, was to allow for the erection of a footbridge at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies (KSMS).

"Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA),wishes to notify the general public that a section of Thika Superhighway at Kenya School of Monetary Studies (KSMS) shall be partially closed for motorists between 9:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. from Friday, July 31, 2020 to Sunday August 2, 2020.

"Traffic shall be diverted to the service lanes to allow the Contractor to erect the footbridge at KSMS," read the notice in part.

The notice also indicated that on the first day, the contractor would concentrate on the transportation of material to the site.

On the second day, the constructors would erect the main highway span while on the third day, the contractor would erect the service lane spans so traffic would be diverted to the main highway.

This is, however, not the first time the section will be partially closed for construction as the section was also closed for two months in February 2020.

At the time, the road section was partially closed at the outer lanes to allow the contractor to construct the median columns for the KSMS footbridge.

Several sections along the busy highway have been under maintenance  with delays in between.

Among the bridges that the authority took up to construct include the bridges at Witeithie, Garden City Mall, Kenya School of Monetary Studies and Njomoko in Thika.
