A 90-year-old grandmother suffered a mild stroke after her family surprised her with a life-changing experience.

Having spent several years apart from each other, the family planned on treating their grandmother to a lifetime opportunity out of love for her.

Speaking with Kenyans.co.ke, her granddaughter detailed her story and how their reunion changed their lives despite the setback.

In early 2019, the family booked her a plane to Mombasa from Nairobi and checked her in at an exclusive resort in Diani.

"It was a life-changing experience for her in so many ways. First of all, it was her first time on an aeroplane which she really enjoyed.

"During our stay, she ate all kinds of seafood which she has never done in her entire life! In fact, we would have our meals and then tell her afterwards, cucu (granny) do you know you just ate fish?" her granddaughter Anne Doris narrated on Tuesday, September 22 through her social media page.

She also enjoyed spending time at the beach and getting to know her family at a personal level. However, upon returning back home, she suffered a mild stroke and hasn't been able to walk again.

"By the time we were leaving, she was so happy. We were blessed with all kinds of blessings. Soon after we got back, she had a stroke and she hasn't been able to walk again. We thank God she was able to experience that when she still had the strength.

"She was placed under treatment and has improved so much. My cucu can now take little steps with assistance," Doris stated while speaking with  Kenyans.co.ke.

The trend has spiked among Kenyans after the country was reopened. Several families have opted to spend some time with their relatives after being separated for months when the country was under lockdown, owing to the Covid-19 pandemic
