Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai on Sunday, October 4, issued a stern warning to politicians after violence marred Deputy President William Ruto's visit to Kenol, Murang'a county.
Mutyambai fired a warning to politicians engaging in incitement with many blaming local leaders for the violence that erupted on Sunday morning,
"We urge politicians to desist from engaging in inciteful utterances and acts. Stern action will be taken against any person engaging in planning and executing unlawful acts.
"National Police Service remains committed to work within the law in discharging its mandate which includes and not limited to protection of life and property," read the IGs statement.
Mutyambai also instructed the Director of Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) and two senior Directorate of Criminal Investigation officers to commence investigations into the matter and bring the perpetrators to book.
The IG also revealed that the death toll from the riots rose to two after another life was lost hours later when the two opposing groups clashed.
Ruto issued an apology after church members at African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA) where he was attending a fundraiser were teargassed by police.
"Those who made the order to teargas congregants in the church are individuals working under us, and I would like to apologise to AIPCA and all churches across the country," noted Ruto.
The Deputy President also catered for the honeymoon expenses of a couple that was wedding at the church also promised to hand them a gift.
Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and Kandara MP Alice Wahome hit out at Murang'a politicians for sponsoring the violent protests.
