Deputy President William Ruto, on Sunday, October 4, apologised to a couple after they were teargassed in church on their wedding day.

Addressing the African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA) at Kenol, Kandara Constituency, the DP condemned the police officers after they reportedly lobbed teargas at worshippers inside the church.

He said that the church was a sacred place, and offered to pay for the couple's honeymoon to a destination of their choice.

"I would like to congratulate the couple, our sister Mary and our friend David. Congratulations on your wedding. We were so happy and were looking forward to witnessing this union, but sorry for the hardship we experienced.

"I would like to apologise to the couple for what happened this morning. For that reason (the chaos), I agree to sponsor your honeymoon, whether in Masai Mara or a place of your choice, I will pay for three or four days," stated the DP.

He further invited the couple to his Karen home before proceeding to their honeymoon to pick up a present from him and his wife, Rachel Ruto.

While at the event, the DP issued an apology regarding the Murang'a chaos that left one person dead and several injured.

He disclosed that people who caused the fracas were employed by himself and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He also promised that the incident would not happen again admitting that the perpetrators were their juniors.

"Those who made the order to teargas congregants in the church are individuals working under us, and I would like to apologise to AIPCA and all churches across the country," he stated.

Ruto further noted that a police officer had stormed the church and attempted to prevent the service from procession during the fracas.

The DP attended the service whose fundraiser was slated to start at 9:30 a.m with Kandara MP Alice Wahome, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro confirming their attendance.

Goons stormed a petrol station, pelting motorists with stones as people around scampered for safety.

The goons also blocked a section of the highway after lighting tyres and staging protests ahead of the Deputy President's visit.

The event was attended by more than 40 members of Parliament.
