Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua was on Friday, October 9, forced to stop an event when police stormed the venue at Chuka town in Tharaka Nithi County.
The county boss who was on a tour of the region had his tour disrupted by the County police boss Charles Mbatu accompanied by other officers who demanded he end the meeting.
The police boss was enforcing new security directives by the National Security Advisory Committee (NSAC)
Mbatu directed the governor to only wave at the people and not hold a public rally.
Taking to his social media pages after the event, Mutua stated that he had listened to the issues facing the people of Chuka town and he would incorporate solutions to their problems in his manifesto.
"I plan to be a servant president with policies based on the interests of Mwananchi. I reiterated that for Kenya to go back on track, it is important that a new, fresh leadership be in place to take us to the next level - where we should have been a long time ago," he stated.
He further called on leaders to exercise peace and democracy as he urged the region's politicians to agree on how to fix the miraa marketing quagmire and the development of other areas in the county.
The NSAC that is led by the Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua sought to reign in on political rallies following chaos that were witnessed in Murang'a county prior to a visit by DP William Ruto that saw two people lose their lives.
He stated that the guidelines are aimed at taming political incitement and violence in political rallies, social media and the mainstream media.
Under the directives, conveners of the meetings will be required to obey orders given to them by the OCS, or any other officer of or above the rank of an inspector, and also assist the police in maintenance of peace and order at the meeting.
Cabinet, on Thursday, October 8, adopted the measures by the NSAC which included the enforcing of compliance of directives on the conduct of public gatherings.
Earlier on Friday, police blocked a meeting organised by politicians including Faisal Abdalla Bader, former Senators; Johnson Muthama, Hassan Omar, Boni Khalwale, and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wah at Ukunda Show Grounds in Mombasa.
