Michael Nyang Joook, a South Sudan ambassador to Eritrea, on Thursday, October 22, collapsed and died inside a bank in the Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD).
The 66-year-old, who is attached to the Eritrean Embassy, is reported to have developed breathing difficulties, before he collapsed and died.
The case has since been recorded at the Central Police Station and officers are probing the incident.
Officers at the station indicated that a team of health officials had been deployed to ascertain the cause of the sudden death.
The deceased's body was taken to the Lee Funeral Home.
The bank has since issued an official statement confirming the incident that occurred inside the banking hall.
Recently, there has been a rise in reported cases of individuals mysteriously collapsing and dying.
In a recent interview, Pauline Oginga, a Public Health Chief Officer in Mombasa Country raised the alarm over the matter and urged the public not to speculate on the cause of death.
"When you drop dead I can only confirm the reason why you dropped dead through a collection of samples and postmortem. I think it’s not only in Mombasa, there are people who have been dropping dead all over the country,"" Oginga stated.
With the country fighting Covid-19, there have been speculations that the cases could be related to the disease, a query that experts in the health sector have dismissed.
So far, the country has recorded 47,212 cases. Of these cases, 33,050 have recovered and 870 have passed on.
On Thursday, October 22, Kenya recorded 1,068 coronavirus cases, the highest recorded in a single day.
