Armed robbers attacked the Mountain Mall along Thika Road, Nairobi on Sunday, November 22, and shot dead a security guard.

The incident took place at around 8:30 p.m. when two gunmen made their way into the mall posing as regular shoppers before proceeding to rob a supermarket in the mall.

Secretary-General of Protective and Safety Association of Kenya, Delano Kiilu identified the security guard as Wycliffe Waweru.

The security guard is alleged to have attempted to block the robbers from leaving the mall prompting them to shoot him on the head and chest, killing him on the spot.

A team of detectives pitched camp inside the mall as they sought to interrogate some of the eyewitnesses present in the mall.

The two robbers are said to have walked out of the mall carrying a briefcase suspected to be full of cash.

According to reports, some of the shoppers were injured during the melee with a few guards on duty also sustaining injuries.

The detectives have since launched investigations after retrieving CCTV footage from the mall to help identify the robbers.

It is not yet clear how much money was stolen from the supermarket.

There has been an increase in insecurity incidences across the country with police on Sunday shooting a suspected robber on a bar's rooftop following a botched robbery attempt.

The incident happened in the morning at Oyugis Town, Homa Bay County, with the suspect said to have been part of a five-man gang that had planned to raid a bar in the area.
