A father shed tears in court when he confronted his daughter-in-law whom he accused of killing his son.
While testifying during the hearing on Friday, January 22 in Nakuru, Mathu Mumo told Justice Teresia Matheka that prior to his son's death in 2017 the couple had been fighting for a while.
“My son used to warn us that one day his wife would kill him over money,” Mumo told the courtroom.
"In one of the fights, both of them sustained injuries," he added.
The businessman was murdered after the family failed to pay Ksh 8 million to a gang that had kidnapped him.
Mumo accused his daughter in law of conspiring with the abductors to execute the kidnapping.
A month before the kidnapping and murder, the businessman's wife had left their matrimonial home in Nakuru Town East after a disagreement.
"As members of the family, we sought the help of the area chief to resolve the dispute and that's when we realised the two were fighting over money," the deceased’s father said.
The abduction is believed to have been executed after the woman returned to her late husband's home.
On the night Kimani was kidnapped, his car was found with the doors wide open and headlights still beaming.
The car keys were on the ground and the stereo was still playing loud music.
“The car door was open and the vehicle's lights were on. The gate to my son's compound was also open. I saw footsteps and followed them to the main road but found nothing,” the deceased’s father described the scene.
