Thika Road Super High motorists were on the morning of Friday, February 12 affected by heavy traffic resulting from a large truck that had overturned on the road.
A spot check by Kenyans.co.ke established that a traffic snarl up had affected all the vehicles getting into and out of the Nairobi CBD through the busy highway.
A concrete mixer truck overturned at Wangari Mathai Road, previously known as Forest Road, near Shell Petrol Station. However, the ripple effect saw traffic extend to as far back as Roysambu.
According to the Nairobi's traffic boss, Mr Joshua Omukata, the truck overturned at around 6 am on Friday 11 but what caused it has not yet been established.
The truck traversing across several lanes appears to have completely blocked the highway. Traffic Police Officers have responded to calls by commuters and motorist but the progress is still very low.
Motorists from Roysambu heading to town through Ngara have been affected with most of them citing laxity from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the Kenya Traffic Police.
Kinyuru Mwangi, a motorist stuck at the same sport since 8 am says the traffic is delaying his delivery of products and has called upon the authority to respond immediately.
Another commuter, Sally Ranjy, who managed to use an alternative route says it took him over two hours to get to work for a journey that normally takes less than an hour.
Traffic managers have in the past warned that any obstruction affecting access to Pangani tunnel, especially during peak hours, is bound to cause a snarl up in the entire superhighway.
Motorist using the nearby roads have also been highly affected and are advised to use alternative roads.
The other noticeable areas affected include the TRM and Roasters with efforts from many of the motorists attempting to look for other roots failing.
