Monday, February, 15: South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro has been arrested at the funeral service of the late Cabinet Minister Simeon Nyachae at the Gusii Stadium in Kisii.

Police sources indicate that the politician had plans to allegedly disrupt the funeral service of Mzee Nyachae.

The legislator however claims the arrest is a political agenda propagated by his rivals.  The news comes after Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi was also arrested by detectives over similar allegations.

Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi has been arrested on Monday morning, February 15 over allegations of planning to cause chaos and disrupt the funeral ceremony of Mzee Simeon Nyachae at Gusii stadium.

Reports indicate that the deputy governor was arrested at Kisii high school, where he, along with other politicians, were allegedly awaiting the arrival of Deputy President William Ruto.

An aide to the deputy governor revealed that detectives arrived at the school and demanded Maangi to enter their car and drove him off to be interrogated.

"We don’t know why they arrested him, they did not give a reason why they were picking him. They only told him to enter their car before they left to Central Police Station where they are interrogating him," the aide who sought anonymity stated.

According to police sources, Maangi and other MPs allied to the DP had allegedly ferried goons to the location to heckle a section of the leaders at the stadium.

Maangi is currently held at an undisclosed location. The reports come after Maangi’s strong ally, former Orange Democratic Movement Kisii County branch chairman, Samuel Omwando was arrested at his house in Nyanchwa just 24 hours before.

A section of dignitaries graced the funeral service of Mzee Nyachae to commemmorate his illustrious life as a former Cabinet Minister and politician. Nyachae succumbed to illness on February 1, 2021. Among the political leaders who attended include President Uhuru Kenyatta, DP Ruto, ODM party leader Raila Odinga, Interior CS Fred Matiangi, Senate Majority leader Samuel Poghisio.

As the political scene in the country heightens ahead of the 2022 General elections, political tension has been at an all-time high.

Allies to the DP have alleged that the government is hell-bent on disrupting their hustler narrative by employing crafty tactics within their arsenal. They faulted the ODM party leader for disrupting the ruling party and driving a wedge between the President and his deputy.

This has led to an ongoing battle between Raila and Ruto allies whose battle lines seemingly have been drawn on the Building Bridges Initiative(BBI) agenda

Recently, another scuffle ensued between members of two opposing factions at the burial of Maangi’s father Abel Gongera. Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati, ODM member, and South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro, Tangatanga member, traded blows following disparaging remarks made by the Dagoretti MP against Ruto.
