A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recruitment in Kwale county was on Thursday, February 18, disrupted when a swarm of bees invaded the centre where the exercise was happening.
The hopeful recruits who were preparing for the exercise at Vigurungani stadium, Kinango constituency, were ambushed by the bees forcing them to flee for their safety.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, a recruit, Francis, explained that they had shown up for the exercise at 8am when the bees came out of nowhere leading to chaos in the whole vicinity.
"We had to run for our lives when the bees came to the stadium," he recalled.

As some fled, a section of the over 500 recruits was forced to lay on the ground to prevent being stung by the invaders.
The bees are believed to have been from a nearby beehive near the stadium where the exercise was to take place.
In the melee, a number of people were injured and rushed to a nearby hospital in the area.
With the disruption, the exercise was postponed with the recruits waiting on information from the officers on when the recruitment exercise will resume.
"We do not know what will happen now, the officers are yet to give a way forward," the recruit added.

The recruitment exercise has attracted thousands of youth who are keen to join the military. However, the process has been marred with allegations of corruption, alleged discrimination and unfair hiring practices.
Women who turned up for (KDF) recruitment in Samburu Central, Samburu County were shocked when they realised only one slot was reserved for them.
At the same time, Senators debated the way the exercise is conducted, alleging that officer were demanding bribes of up to Ksh300,000 to give slots to the recruits.
