A mother of newly born quadruplets is detained at the Nairobi South Hospital over an accumulated bill of Ksh2.8 million.

26-year-old Virginia Adhiambo delivered pre-term babies on Monday, February 1, and after a day developed complications.

"She had to undergo a C-section because one of the babies was in distress. They were kept in incubators and after a day, Virginia developed complications," Charles Kyalo, the husband stated.

He added that the bill had skyrocketed as the babies needed to be kept in incubators and their mother's health complications managed.

According to the father, two of the babies and the mother have been allowed to go home once the bill is cleared. Two of the other babies, however, are still in incubators.

The couple had been trying to have a baby in previous years but the journey had been stressful because Adhiambo had ovarian cysts in her uterus. It is only until last year when they were told that they were expecting four babies.

Kyallo, a businessman who sells banking machines, stated that he had managed to raise Ksh500,000 from relatives, friends, church members, a pastor and family savings.

He added that the family's business had been hit by Covid-19 last year.

The family is now appealing to Kenyans of goodwill to help them raise the funds so that they are able to offset the bill.

On its part, the hospital has called for a meeting with Kyalo to discuss what can be done to deal with the situation at hand.
