Mombasa Governor Ai Hassan Joho on Thursday, February 25 rolled out a robotics program for publicly run nursery schools in the coastal county.

Governor Joho said that the historic program would enhance innovation amongst Mombasa County children at an early age.

He added that the county would continue to partner with stakeholders in enhancing the digital culture amongst Mombasa constituents.

"The County Government of Mombasa has pioneered several digital initiatives including a business e-portal for local and foreign investors.

This has provided an opportunity for Mombasa County residents to share information and enhance trade," Joho stated.

The governor was speaking during the opening of the ‘Digital Competitiveness in a Flat World’ summit that was held at the Sarova White Sands Hotel.

The summit brings together digital technocrats and marketing stakeholders to exchange ideas and benefit from world’s best practices.

The event was attended by Cabinet Secretary (CS) Joe Mucheru, Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony and other stakeholders.

According to PayScale, a website that researches and compares average salaries, the annual salary of a robotics engineer is valued at between Ksh6 million and Ksh13million.

Not many universities in Kenya offer a degree or diploma in robotics. Technical University of Mombasa offers a diploma in Mechatronic and Robotic Engineering and is one of the very few institutions in the country that offer the course.

The program will go a long way in helping Mombasa County children learn about the lucrative field from a young age.
