A report by Viffa Consult on the trends of Kenya's Tourism in 2021, revealed that a majority of Kenyans who travelled factored in night life among the top considerations when choosing a travel destination.
The sense of adventure, ability to rest, good food, nature, and the opinions of family and friends were also the key drivers in making decisions regarding travel.
A high percentage of travelers travel for business and pleasure with a budget of between Ksh31,000 and Ksh50,000.
When searching for specific destinations, travelers consider the price and options of paying on credit, the quality of services offered, reviews of the destination, and security.
Kenyans proved to depend on referrals from family and friends when deciding where they wanted to spend their vacations.
Other sources included travel destination websites, government agency platforms such as Magical Kenya and social media influencers.
87 percent of local tourists in Kenya are between ages of 26-45 Years and mostly travel twice a year.
“15 percent of respondents indicated an affinity to take advantage of off peak season in most destinations which is correlated with low foreign tourist inflow so as to take advantage of low prices,” read the report.
Travelers also required their travel destinations to be easily accessible in terms of the state of infrastructure leading there.
In 2021, lower prices due to the effects of Covid-19, reducing the number of international tourists, enabled Kenyans to travel more.
“Targeted promotion about available destination to local Kenyans and ease access to destination through bundled offers such as accommodation and travel inclusive promoted tourism in 2021,” added the report.
