Kameme TV anchor Wangeci wa Kariuki slammed President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto during the burial of her sister held over the weekend.

Wangeci accused politicians of trying to manipulate residents in their favour without any tangible benefits.

"That wheelbarrow party you're talking about, tell him (Ruto) to help tarmac this road and restock our hospitals so that our people can access healthcare,” Kariuki told one of the DP’s allies who was at the funeral.

“Even the president should be told our ears are only ready to listen to news about development because Nyandarua is neglected. We know politicians are amassing wealth while Kenyans are wallowing in poverty,” Wangeci added.

The TV anchor also faulted politicians for using the church as a campaign platform, urging them to focus on the mandate they were given by Kenyans.

She recalled how her mother died after an asthma attack before she could not access a hospital due to the state of the roads.

Her rant triggered backlash on social media from Kenyans who accused her of being sponsored to criticise the political class.

“People miss many opportunities because they are afraid to express how they feel. Nobody knows what you want until you speak it out,” Kariuki said, defending her right to speak out.

"I am not afraid to say that Nyandarua needs development,” Wangeci emphasised, adding that residents of the county don’t care about personalities as long as their needs are met.

In September 2020 musicians from Nyandarua united to challenge the county government to improve the road network.

“We have come together as musicians and I know people will call us names but we cannot sit and watch as things go wrong. As celebrities, we owe it to future generations to speak up. We urge the county government to work on our poor road network,” popular musician Samido said in a press conference backed by fellow artists.
