Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i on Monday, June 15, held closed-door talks with Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia, during which he shared various plans as outlined by President Uhuru Kenyatta. 

Addressing the media shortly after the meeting, Governor Kimemia alluded to plans the president had given the go-ahead to be undertaken in the County.

"We discussed a lot of development projects kickstarted by the President in the county with the team.

"We went through a list item by item including a potato processing plant to be launched in July 2020, a seed multiplication plant, a 425km tarmac road project, dams, the upgrading of the JM Kariuki Memorial Hospital and the conversion of the  Nyandarua Institute of Science and Technology to a national polytechnic," the governor disclosed.

He further revealed that the Engineer Level Four Hospital would also be upgraded, adding that the team which comprised of Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, Water CS Sicily Kariuki and the Inspector General (IG) of Police Hilary Mutyambai specially chosen by President Uhuru to oversee the implementation of his development projects.

On his part, CS Matiang'i maintained that over and above discussing the various projects, he had also opted to bring along IG Mutyambai to tackle the rising cases of crime in the county.

"I assure the people of Nyandarua that we will not leave this place without a solution to the rising insecurity cases here.

"We are on a working mission in Nyandarua today. I am very concerned about the rising cases of cattle rustling and murders in the area and we will not live without settling this madness once and for all," he asserted.

He went on to mention the spate of grisly murders targeting women and children in Nyandarua and Laikipia counties that have sent shivers down the spines of residents.

The latest incident occurred at Gwa Kung’u, Karagoini sub-location, in Ndaragua, where a woman, Wairimu Mbogo, and her seven-year-old son, James Maina, were hacked to death and their bodies set ablaze.

"I have been sent by the President with the following message, as a National Government, we are committed towards continued collaboration with the County Governments to make sure we deliver on projects across the county that will be of service to the people," Matiang'i reiterated.
