Homeboy Radio General Manager, Somoina Kimojino has disclosed that Shaffie Weru and DJ Joe Mfalme will face disciplinary action over their remarks on a sexual violence survivor.
"Homeboyz Radio sincerely apologises to Eunice Wangari and our listeners for the comments made by presenters," read the apology statement.
"We understand the seriousness of the matter and will endeavour to ensure our presenters and show hosts discuss issues of consent and violence against women in a respectful and conscious manner going forward," Kimojino noted.
Homeboyz Radio presenter Shaffie Weru has been forced to apologise following remarks he made on his morning show, Lift Off, on Thursday, March 25.
The radio presenter alongside his co-hosts, Neville Musya and Dj Joe Mfalme were accused of shaming a sexual violence survivor who narrated that her boyfriend threw her off the 12th floor of a building when she refused to spend the night at his place.
Weru argued that women should play hard to get and be unavailable, sentiments that caused an uproar on social media.
The presenter has since apologised and asked Kenyans to forgive him for his utterances.
"I realise and accept that my sentiments about the unfortunate incident that happened to Eunice were very insensitive and harmful and could be interpreted by some as encouraging the already ongoing and unacceptable culture of violence against women and girls," he begun.
"I, in no way, shape, or form support or tolerate any kind of violence. I am a proud and loving father to my daughters and will not and cannot condone violence toward women," he concluded.
DJ Joe Mfalme also made a public apology, citing that he was wrong and could never condone any form of violence against women.
"I realise that my sentiments and contribution about the unfortunate incident that happened to Eunice were totally wrong and could be interpretted by some as encouraging especially at a time when we need to stand up against any form of Gender Based Violence against women," he stated.
The woman in question, Eunice Wangari Wakimbi, told the court that she went for a date with the assaulter, Moses Gatama, in Nairobi on September 13, 2020.
Following their date, the duo proceeded to Gatama's office on 12th floor in a building in Nairobi, where they had alcoholic drinks.
At around 7pm, she requested to leave and Gatama was not pleased with the idea.
It is then that a fight ensued and Gatama pushed her out of the window. She landed on 9th floor and was rushed to the Kenyatta National Hospital.
The court heard that she suffered serious pelvic injuries.
