Nairobi Metropolitan Services boss Mohammed Badi has found himself in the spotlight following his recent project undertakings.
A report by the Nation on Monday, April 12 indicated that Members of the Nairobi County Assembly (MCAs) had directed the Transport and Public Works Committee to carry out an investigations on the institution.
The lawmakers had expressed concerns regarding the slow pace in which most projects around the city were being undertaken.
They claimed that despite issuing a project priority list, NMS was yet to begin construction works on some of them despite allocation of necessary equipment.
"Many of the projects are yet to start despite the passage and assent of the appropriations Act," noted Ngei MCA Redson Otieno.
The lawmakers now want the entity and its leader to speed up service delivery.
This new development has tainted NMS development record after a series of appraisals over timely projects delivery since taking over key function from the Nairobi County Government in 2019.
Nairobi residents, including President Uhuru Kenyatta, had praised the general for shutting out insults and improving road infrastructure, hospitals as well as water supply.
As of December 2020, the agency was en route to completing the process of tarmacking 400kms of roads around the city.
“People in our informal settlements used to pay almost Sh40 daily to buy two jerrycans of water. That is a huge amount. But look at what is happening now, with the boreholes they get water regularly and free,” lauded Uhuru at the time.
2021 had, however, suffered a blow after reports emerged that it would lose Ksh9 billion in latest budgetary estimates.
Nairobi county government projected a Ksh37.3 billion budget for the next financial year 2021-22. Barely a month after the announcement, Badi cracked a whip and transferred officials that were reportedly dormant.
