Celebrated KTN News anchor Lofty Matambo has called it quits.

The Kiswahili News anchor told the viewers that Sunday, April 18, would mark his last bulletin at KTN News. This he did while hosting the station's prime time Kiswahili bulletin on Sunday.

In his final heartfelt message, Matambo thanked his fans for supporting him and his employer, The Standard Group, for giving him the opportunity.

The outspoken Swahili anchor has exited the station after seven and a half years having joined the media house as a reporter.

"For seven and a half years you have allowed me into your living rooms without knocking and you welcomed me with a smile. Those in the city watched me and those from the village followed my reports.

"For the zeal to have an upright society, I brought you Kimasomaso to condemn the evil in the society and uphold the good. They reached out to me and I answered the call, the call to say goodbye and pursue other things outside The Standard Media Group," stated the journalist.

"Thanks to Standard Group PLC for this chance. Thanks to journalists, fellow anchors and editors. Thank you for being patient with me. Let us interact out there and God willing, we shall meet again," he added.

At the media house, Matambo hosted the prime time Kiswahili news bulletin and a talk show dubbed Kimasomaso. He also hosted a Christian-centered radio show Shangwe na Matambo on Radio Maisha.

Roughly two weeks ago, an insider at Nation Media Group (NMG) told Kenyans.co.ke that Matambo alongside two other high profile KTN News anchors; Ben Kitili and Lindah Ogutu were in talks to join NTV.

At the time, the three had reached high-level discussions with the Kimathi Street-based station with reports detailing that they were to join the NMG in mid-April.

"Lofty is ready to join NTV. He met the management of both sides, who are now finalising the paperwork. The only issue derailing the move is some agreement between the two stations. However, he already served his notice and is almost serving his time," stated the insider at the time.

Matambo, who holds a Degree in Communications and PR from St Paul's University as well as a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology from Kabete National Polytechnic, joined KTN News in 2013.

Prior to joining KTN News, he was a content producer/presenter at Media Development In Africa (MEDEVA) for two years.
