Newly sworn in Judge of the Supreme Court William Ouko is set to receive a salary of Ksh 792,000 and allowances that could see him take home Ksh1.2 million.
Part of the allowances will include; official transport and a medical cover that can be used by his spouse and up to four children below the age of 25 years.
Justice Ouko will be the beneficiary of a medical scheme that includes: inpatient cover of Ksh10 million, outpatient cover of Ksh 300,000, maternity cover of Ksh 150,000, dental cover of Ksh 75,000 and optical Ksh 75,000.
In addition, Ouko will also enjoy security that will be deployed to him by Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai. The security team will guard him and his residence.
Further, Ouko will be provided with official transport by the court as well as a car loan facility availed to all judges. Unlike the Chief Justice and Deputy Chief Justice however, he will not be accorded an official residence but will be availed a mortgage benefit as determined by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
Other miscellaneous allowances include airtime allowance, special judicial duty allowance and daily subsistence allowance.
Judges and magistrates have a life insurance cover and personal accident cover each valued to three times of the annual basic remuneration package.
Previously, Ouko was the president of the Court of Appeal before his swearing in.
He will now be replaced by Justice Daniel Musinga whose election was certified by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
While working as the president of the Court of Appeal, Ouko earned a total of 689,224 with allowances totaling to Ksh1.1 million.
He had eyed the Chief Justice seat but lost it to his counterpart Martha Koome. Both were sworn in on May 21, 2021 at State House.
The president reminded the duo of the oaths that they had taken and asked them to always follow them.
"Just be fair and the executive will not have any problem with you," Uhuru stated.
