Police officers posing as joggers shot dead two robbers believed to be part of a gang fond of terrorising innocent Kenyans who ply the Southern Bypass.

Events began unfolding after three robbers attempted to steal from the officers, leading them to open fire and kill two on the spot while one escaped with gunshot wounds.

Kiambu County Commander Ali Nunoh confirmed the incident and indicated that a sword, panga, 3 mobile phones were part of the items that were retrieved from the scene.

The robbers were shot a day after they attacked a motorist who had developed mechanical problems along the road and robbed him of money and other valuables.

“I was driving along the bypass and passed a young man walking along, Suddenly, I heard a funny sound from my car. I stopped to look at what had happened but no sooner had I bent my knees than he patted my back and shepherded me into the forest,” he said.

“Two other robbers emerged from the forest, roughed me up and demanded money at gunpoint. I told them that I had none but they frisked my pockets and got some before they went to the car and found more,” he continued.

Police suspect that the robbers might have stolen from other motorists and joggers on Thursday morning before their death.

The incident came hardly a week after Kenyans.co.ke reported on the growing insecurity cases along the Southern Bypass.

Netizens had lamented on the insecurity in the area in a series of posts on social media.

"I got robbed at gunpoint along the Southern bypass at 11am. I had my babies in my vehicle when it all happened. I had a flat tyre, I tried calling for help but it was so bad so I had to call for help," one netizen with the moniker Afrostreet Kollektions explained.

A day later, however, three suspects armed with machetes were arrested by the police as they prepared to stage attacks against motorists.
