Dutch Man Found Dead in Apartment, Girlfriend Tied in Car

A Dutch national, Herman Rouwenhorst, and his watchman were on Friday, June 4, found murdered in his home in Shanzu, Mombasa County.

On the other hand, Rouwenhorst's girlfriend, Riziki Cherono, was found by police officers strapped tightly in her car seat and calling for help near the Serena Beach Hotel.

According to a police report filed at Bamburi Police station under OB 6/4/6/2021, Riziki stated that she had been driven to the said place from her apartment.

Officers who came to her aid untied her and accompanied her to her apartment where Rouwenhorst's lifeless body was found lying in their bed. His hands and legs had also been tied and his mouth gagged as reported by the Daily Nation.

Both his body and that of the watchman were taken to the Pandya Hospital Mortuary awaiting a postmortem.

Police have since launched investigations and have vowed to bring the perpetrators to book.

The incident came days after a German national accused his girlfriend was found dead in Mombasa County.

The national had been on the run after his girlfriend was found dead and her body stashed under their bed.

In 2019, another Dutch national who had gone missing was found murdered in a septic tank at his home in Kitisuru, Spring Valley, Nairobi.

Following his death, his wife Sara Wairimu who was arrested as the prime suspect.

"It is a gruesome murder, they took their time to kill innocent Cohen,” Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti has stated at the time.
