The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) on Tuesday, June 29, announced that it would shut down water supply in some Nairobi estates.
In a statement, the company indicated that the water supply would be shut down on Wednesday, 30 June 2021 at 6:00 am to Thursday, 1 July 2021 at 6:00 am.
Some of the estates that will be affected include; Westlands, Highridge and Parklands, estates along Waiyaki Way, Rhapta Road, Parklands Road and Church Road.
Other areas that will be affected include; Nairobi School, MP Shah Hospital, Muguga Green Estate, Sarit Centre and the surrounding estates.
The company explained that the water will be shut down due to the ongoing construction of the Expressway Highway.
"The shutdown will facilitate interconnection of relocated pipeline to the old pipeline at the junction of Waiyaki Way and James Gichuru road.
"This will enable release of the road section between Nairobi School and the junction of Waiyaki Way Road and James Gichuru Road to the Expressway road contractor," reads the statement.
NCWSC further urged its clients to use the available water sparingly before it is restored.
The Nairobi expressway is a project by the government that is meant to ensure that curb traffic. The expressway will link the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
China Road and Bridge Corporation is working day and night to build the Sh62 billion expressway.
Transport CS James Macharia previously stated that the Nairobi Expressway project is a very critical piece of infrastructure that will act as a link between the east of the country and the west.
