Deputy President William Ruto arrived in Uganda on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, on private business.
On Wednesday, DP Ruto accompanied President Yoweri Museveni in laying the foundation stone for a Biological Drugs and mRNA vaccine manufacturing facility in Matuga, Uganda.
The DP later held talks with Museveni, in the company of a few political and business operatives. In one image seen by Kenyans.co.ke, Ruto is in the company of Kapseret MP Oscar Kipchumba Sudi and businessman David Lang'at.
Langat, fondly referred as DL, is a Kenyan billionaire who owns several properties and runs a number of businesses in the country.
Despite his immense power in business and politics, the Mombasa-based tycoon prefers to keep a low profile.
Lang'at owns Nyali Super Centre, arguably Mombasa's largest mall. He also owns Sunrise Resort and other prime real estate projects at the coast.
The tycoon is also the proprietor of Koisagat Tea Estate in Nandi County and Kapchechet Tea Factory in Kericho county. He also owns Selenkei Investments Ltd, an electricity generating company that majors in solar power energy.
He has interests in the ongoing Pearl River Industrial Park in Eldoret which sits on 700 acres of land. It is estimated to be worth Ksh200 billion.
The park is being built in conjunction with Chinese Firm Guangdong New South Group Ltd.
Langat is also a holder of the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) and in 2016, he was named Mombasa's best business leader by the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) Mombasa Chapter.
The Nandi native was instrumental in funding 2013 presidential election where he supported President Uhuru Kenyatta's joint ticket with Ruto.
He later fell out with Ruto with their differences escalating to the 2017 election. His presence at the meeting with Museveni, however, suggests that he could be returning to the Ruto camp and will likely be a major financier of the DP's 2022 campaign team.
