Education CS George Magoha on Saturday, July 17, warned Secondary school heads of sending students with a fees arrears home.
Speaking from Mutumo primary school in Gatundu South, Kiambu County, Magoha told parents who had an arrears to talk to their school heads and request for more time to clear the arrears.
The CS noted that the government had already disbursed the Ksh59.4 billion to secondary schools and Ksh15.2 billion for primary schools for the 2020-2021 year.
"If you are a parent and have a fees problem, go to the headteacher and explain so that we have a payment plan for the food that the child is going to eat in that school,"Magoha stated.
"Every child must be taken to schools. The child has no capacity to say that they will not be going to schools," he reiterated.
He further cautioned parents against having wrong priorities rather than catering for the needs of their children.
"Parents must also be responsible and not go out drinking instead of paying fees for their children," he stated.
Additionally, Magoha warned adults who were preying and impregnating school girls. He vowed that those caught participating in this vices would face the full force of law.
During the function, the CS also distributed items like sanitary towels and masks that had been donated by Ahadi Kenya to the schools.
Ahadi Education Director Dr Stanley Kamau asked the community to support education for all children.
A section of parents had previously lamented on the fees issue, baring in mind that the new school calendar only gave a week longs holiday.
"The terms are too close together and we we are hustlers. How will we get the money in good time?" Sarah Wangari, a parent to two secondary school students had posed.
