Cancer Kills 60 Kenyans Daily, Statistics Reveal

Shocking statistics on the Kenyan health situation have been released at the 9th First Lady Margaret Kenyatta's Stop Cervical, Breast &Prostate Cancer in Africa (SCCA) Conference Partners Breakfast at Villa Rosa Kempinski Hotel.

A report released at the conference has revealed that on average, 60 Kenyans lose their lives to cancer everyday.

The figure translates to 3 deaths every hour to the disease which is now turning out to be the one of deadliest in Kenya and beyond.

Globally, cancer kills more people than HIV, TB and Malaria combined, contrary to what most would have thought; that either of the three is the highest killer.

In Kenya,  cancer is ranked as the third highest killer after infectious and cardiovascular diseases 70% of those affected are younger than 70 years.

The deaths have been blamed on late diagnosis, lack of awareness, inadequate treatment facilities and high cost of treatment.

The first lady has called for action and more focus on cancer in the country.
