Candidates vying for elective posts in Turkana County will enjoy a higher campaign spending limit compared to their peers seeking similar elective positions in Nairobi.

In a Gazette Notice dated August 9, 2021, candidates vying for the positions of the Governor, Senator and Woman Representative in Turkana County can spend up to Ksh123 million compared to Ksh117 million for those seeking the same posts in Nairobi.

The campaign spending limits are anchored on the region's size and population.

For instance, Nairobi has a resident population of 4,397,073, almost five times Turkana County's population of 926,976. However, in terms of land mass, Turkana County has a total area of 68,680 square kilometres compared to Nairobi with only 695 square kilometres.

Marsabit is the only other county whose campaign spending limit is above the Ksh100 million mark.

With a population of 459,785 and an area of 70,961 square kilometres, candidates campaigning for the three top seats in the county will enjoy a spending limit of Ksh114,798,911.

Counties with the lowest campaign limits include Lamu at Ksh21,910,122, Tharaka Nithi at Ksh23,143,009, Nyamira at Ksh25,981,595, and Vihiga at Ksh25,164,050.

Nairobi constituencies with the highest campaigns spending limits include Embakasi East -Ksh21,838,927, Embakasi South - Ksh21,795,971 and Roysambu Ksh19,373,702.

Those with the lowest limits in Nairobi include Kibra - Ksh14,821,658, Embakasi North - Ksh15,336,441 and Langata at Ksh15,505,730.

Other constituency campaigns spending limits in Nairobi are: Embakasi West - Ksh18,641,046, Embakasi Central - Ksh17,614,783, Starehe - Ksh15,282,493, Dagoretti North - Ksh16,847,999, Dagoretti South - Ksh18,581,131, Kamukunji - Ksh16,816,696, Ruaraka - Ksh16,810,268, Makadara -Ksh16,141,761, Westlands - Ksh16,477,203 and Mathare at Ksh15,640,982. 

Embakasi Ward has the highest set campaigns spending limit Ksh7,010,132, closely followed by Ruai at Ksh5,639,617 and Njiru at Ksh5,086,321.

Presidential candidates have a campaign limit of Ksh4,435,565,094 for their national campaigns.
