Deputy President William Ruto on Monday evening, August 9, announced that he had reached out to his deported Turkish associate Harun Aydin.
In a public statement, Ruto indicated that he contacted the Turkish investor and apologized for the alleged harassment by the Kenyan government.
He decried Aydin's deportation terming it as a product of political pettiness by government officials who he described as playing politics in the war against terror.
The Deputy President also accused the Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) of torturing the Turkish national while he was in their custody.
"Just talked & apologized on behalf of GoK to Aydin Harun, now in Turkey, who was politically arrested, tortured & falsely profiled as a 'terrorist' but later asked to fly out not to shame those involved. Political pettiness is expensive/dangerous & will destroy our economy. SHAME" tweeted the DP.
The Turkish national was reported to have been deported on Monday morning, August 9, after spending two nights in ATPU's custody.
Aydin is reported to have left the country for Instanbul at 4:25 a.m.
Following Aydin's departure from the country, one of the lawyers representing Harun Aydin, Ahmednasir Abdullahi, condemned the government for allegedly deporting Aydin who was set to appear at the Kahawa West Law Courts for a hearing of his case.
He, however, clarified that Aydin had not been formally deported and that he left the country for Turkey on his own volition.
Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen alleged that Aydin had been released following increasing pressure on the Kenyan government by Turkey.
"The truth is that the pressure from the Turkish government was unbearable. Questions were asked & answers are a MUST," claimed Murkomen on his Twitter page.
