Muranga Woman Representative Sabina Chege announced that she would donate money gifted to her during her star-studded birthday party on Saturday, August 21.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Sunday, August 21, Sabina stated that she would donate the money to Bishop Gatimu Kinyona Girls High School in Murang'a county.
She disclosed that she received Ksh7 million from her colleagues and friends who attended her surprise birthday party attended by Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, Public Service Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rachel Shebesh, among others.
The legislator stated that the money would go towards funding the construction of a dormitory at the school, noting that the current one could not host the current student population.
"The school only has one dormitory, and some of the students are forced to sleep in the classrooms," she explained.
The Woman Rep revealed that the construction of the dormitory would cost around Ksh15 million.
Sabina told Kenyans.co.ke that she decided to give back to the school on her birthday as she had grown up at Kinyona Catholic Church.
She further added that she helped the community start the school after the church donated land for its construction.
The Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Health noted that she was to submit the donations to the school on Sunday, August 22 but could not as it would be a violation of the ban on public gatherings due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
She stated that she continues to receive donations from her friends and other well-wishers. Chege stated that she and other well-wishers came together to pay school fees for 40 students in the school.
"We are trying to have a Starehe Girls model in Murang'a. We pick girls from vulnerable families around the county and pay their fees," she expounded.
The Murang'a MP thanked God for another year and hopes to use it to impact the lives of others.
