The Registrar of Political Parties has made the final decision on the fate of the National Super Alliance (NASA).
Ann Nderitu on Friday, August 27, confirmed the dissolution of the NASA coalition in a decision arrived at after the Wiper Democratic Movement, Amani National Congress (ANC), Ford Kenya, and Chama Cha Mashinani, wrote to her office announcing their withdrawal from the coalition.
Nderitu, through a letter copied to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Raila Odinga, ANC's Musialia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka of Wiper, FORD-Kenya’s Moses Wetangula, and Isaac Ruto of Chama Cha Mashinani, noted that the resolutions were executed as per set requirements.
“This office shall, in line with Regulation 22 (2) of the Political Parties (Registration) Regulations, 2019, publish a notice of the dissolution in two newspapers,” Nderitu said.
on August 3, 2021 Wiper, ANC, and Ford-Kenya party leaders announced their resolution to leave the NASA coalition, a decision that saw ODM also exit the coalition.
The decision to quit NASA came after Raila agreed to share the funds revealing that ODM would share Ksh153 million between its principal members while retaining Ksh334.6 million.
Wiper Party was allocated Ksh70.4 million and ANC Ksh43.8 million.
This paved way for the parties to seek other alliances ahead of the 2022 General Election.
So far, ODM has agreed to form a coalition with Jubilee Party while ANC, WIPER, Ford-Kenya and KANU moved in to form One Kenya Alliance (OKA).
The leaders have been meeting President Uhuru Kenyatta in what has been viewed as a means to consolidate all opposition parties.
