The court has heard how a Mombasa Director of Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO) allowed her husband to use her official firearm for criminal activities.
Bridget Wanjiku Kamau, the Mombasa DCIO on Thursday, September 2, appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi and was charged with the offence of allowing her official firearm to be used in suspected criminal activities.
She, however, denied one charge of unlawfully permitting another person to take possession of her firearm, after police stated that her official firearm was recovered in the possession of her husband in Yaya Centre.
Wanjiku asked the court to grant her reasonable bail terms, saying she is attached to Regional Criminal Investigations Office Coast Region and has been cooperating with investigations.
In court documents, the prosecution indicated that Kilimani Police officers found a permitted revolver pistol which was lawfully issued to Wanjiku.
Wanjiku's husband Geoffrey Maina was charged with being in possession of two police handcuffs and a police pocket phone, which is property of the National police service.
Maina was also charged with being in possession of seven rounds of ammunition in a Mercedes Benz that was searched by police at Kilimani station.
He was charged alongside Chris Musyoka and Lucia Wanjiku Mutungwa with several counts of transportation of firearms, illegally being in possession of ammunition, handcuffs, concealment of a serial number of a firearm, preparation to commit a felony and forgery.
Musyoki and Lucia were separately charged with concealing the serial number of the Ceska pistol by erasing it.
Court documents also showed that on an unknown date Musyoki forged a State House Presidential Delivery Unit sticker fitted on the windscreen of the Mercedes Benz.
The Magistrate, however, released the accused on a bond of Ksh300,000 or a cash bail of Ks100,000 each.
