The statement revealed that each winner would receive training, mentorship and Ksh5 million in funds in order to invest in an initiative that extends their community's positive impact.

The program is part of Facebook's global Community Leadership Program that invests in people who make a positive impact in their respective communities.

Facebook lauded the 13 winners for engaging in various social impact activities ranging from helping the needy in society to sharing ordinary and extraordinary stories from around the world.

"We are excited to announce the 13 Facebook community leaders in Africa who have been helping to resolve social challenges, empowering their audiences with knowledge while connecting with others that share their interests or passion for a cause," read part of the statement.

Mwaniki was acknowledged for his efforts towards bringing together teachers, trainees and tutors from all Teacher Training Colleges in Kenya in order to build relationships, share job vacancies and promote businesses.

Amakove, on the other hand, brought together a community of travelers to share stories during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic in April 2020.

Through Facebook groups, the travelers promoted eco-tourism in Kenya and other African countries in a bid to promote community development.
