6 Kenyans Win Facebook's Community Leadership Program 2018

Five Kenyans are set to receive Ksh5 million each while one will receive up to Ksh100 million after they were recognized by Facebook for their various community efforts.

The six are part of the 100 groups globally which have been chosen for its 2018 Facebook Community Leadership Program (FCLP).

Among the winners in the "fellows" category is Caroline Wanjiru Kihusa, founder of Still A Mum Trust whose aim is to create an Africa where bereaved parents get outstanding support.

A delighted Wanjiru tweeted: "I am one of the 6 Kenyans selected for the FCLP! All because of my work with StillAMumAfrica. I will be travelling to Facebook headquarters in California in 2 weeks!"

"Over the next year I will be working closely with Facebook and other community leaders to grow my leadership skills and develop community projects that help us achieve the Still A Mum mission and vision," Wanjiru revealed.

Another Kenyan among the 14 African winners is Pamellah Oduor, the founder of Let’s Cook Kenyan Meals whose aim is to promote healthy living by cooking healthy homemade meals.

Truphosah Monah, founder of Women and Realities of Disability (WARD), a Facebook group which seeks to create awareness in Kenya about the lives of disabled women is also set to be awarded.

Also in the list is Felista Wangari, an admin at 52-Week Money Challenge Kenya, a place to share knowledge and ideas on being an entrepreneur, investing and money management.

Lastly, Asha Mweru an admin at #WomenWorkKE!, a group which brings together driven, like-minded Kenyan women with various business and career ambitions will also be awarded.

In the prestigious "community leaders in residence" category, Noah Nasiali is the only African who made it.

The Kenyan entrepreneur built a community of 100,000 farmers in Africa through his Facebook group Africa Farmers Club.

Nasiali is among the five people who will each receive up to Ksh100,000,000 in funding to build communities.
