In honor of Kenya's fallen star, Agnes Jebet Tirop, Athletics Kenya has issued a directive that all althletics activities shall be suspended for two weeks effective immediately.

This was announced on Thursday, October 14, by the Athletics Kenya President, Jackson Tuwei, as the country continues to mourn the demise of the former World Record holder.

The athletics federation has issued the statement, as they term Tirop a "lost a jewel, who was one of the fastest-rising athletics giants on the international stage."

The 25-year-old was found deceased in her house in Elgeyo Marakwet County, with stab wounds to the neck on Wednesday, October 13.

Agnes has not only been mourned by her fellow Kenyan athletes and government officials, but international media as well, terming her as a talented and promising athlete.

She was recently the women's representative in the 5000 metres women's race at the Tokyo Olympics.

Tirop has an exemplary record in Olympics, with her recent achievement being the World Record Holder in the 10KM race, after finishing in a time of 30:01.

One of her greatest achievements is being the youngest female to win the World Cross since Zola Budd in 1985, and the second youngest in the history of World Cross Country Athletics.

Her prominence grew in 2012, after she became the runners up in the Kenyan Cross Country Championships.

Even as the country continues to mourn, police officers have launched a manhunt for Emmanuel Rotich, Tirop’s husband who disappeared mysteriously, after his wife passed away.

He is currently believed to have caused the unfortunate events.
